The world itself is an inspiration to me. I have been making one of a kind pieces since a young age and carry on to this day while studying for my Bachelor of Fine Art with ASU. I draw my love for ceramics from my loving family, friends and everything in-between.
As an artist, I find my voice through the medium in which I work with: clay. Clay is a soft material and is very lenient, listening to every move you make; it becomes a harmonious movement. An enormous influence of my work comes from some of the earliest recorded ceramics in history which originated during the Jomon and Yayoi periods of Japan. They used some of the most primitive methods of working with clay which included coil building. The act of coiling a pot can be balanced with patience and attention which allowed them to create simple forms that could be used for function, as well as keeping an elegance to them. My work aims towards a more contemporary approach while still working within the traditional culture of the coil building method.
With ceramics you're able to create within a world of no boundaries. I have been thankful for all the opportunities that I have been given over my career. I am happy to share with you all my journey in the art world.
